DDEL version 1.0
LEGAL MUMBO JUMBO:
DDEL is distributed on an "AS IS" basis without warranty,
expressed or implied. Considerable testing of the program has
been done, but the user assumes full risk as to the results of
using this program. Any liability of the author will be
limited exclusively to product replacement. In no event shall
the author be liable for any consequential damages arising
from the use, or inability to use this program.
WHAT IS DDEL?
DDEL is a dos utility that makes it fast and easy to
selectively choose files to delete out of a directory.
When you type DDEL at the dos prompt, a menu of all the files
in your current directory is displayed. You can use your
keyboard or mouse to tag the files you want to erase. For
safety's sake, you are given an opportunity to exit the
program without deleting anything, even if you have tagged
files.
HOW TO USE DDEL
Once the DDEL menu of files is displayed, there are several
different ways to choose the specific files that you want
deleted. Either use your up and down arrow keys, page up and
page down keys, home and end keys, or click your mouse to
highlight the proper file. After the file is highlighted,
press your spacebar or double click your left mouse button to
tag it for deletion. You will see a check mark appear next to
tagged files.
You can untag any file by simply pressing the spacebar again,
or double clicking the mouse once more.
After you are satisfied that you have tagged all the files you
want to delete, either press the ESC key or the right mouse
button. You will be shown a list of all the files that you
have tagged. To confirm that you really want DDEL to erase
these files, press the ENTER key. Bang, they'll be gone.
If you don't want to delete these files after all, press any
other key or one of the mouse buttons. You will exit the DDEL
program and nothing will be deleted.
WHY DDEL?
Although multi-featured file manager programs allow you to
choose and delete files, those programs take a long time to
load because they read your entire drive, and then require
several keystrokes before you can get to work deleting files.
DDEL is much faster because it is a smaller program, it only
reads your current directory, and is ready to work
immediately.
Try it for a while, you'll be amazed at the convenience of
DDEL.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
DDEL will accept wildcards when it is started. For instance,
typing DDEL *.DBF at the dos prompt will display a menu of
only files with an extension of DBF. Likewise, typing DDEL
S*.* will display only those files that start with the letter
S). Other wildcard combinations will work, too.
TRICK FOR GRIZZLED OLD USERS:
Once you're used to the process, you might want to try this
special shortcut to highlight files: Simply type the first
letter of the file you want to select. DDEL's menu will jump
to every file in the directory that begins with that letter.
You might have to hit the key a few times, but you'll get to
the file you want eventually. Try it, it's pretty neat.
WHERE SHOULD I KEEP THE DDEL PROGRAM FILES?
I recommend you copy the program files DDEL.EXE, DDEL.CFG, and
this file that you're reading now, DDEL.DOC into a directory
that is part of your path statement. If you don't know what
this means, you can't go wrong by copying them to your drive's
root directory, or to the DOS directory. This way, you can
call DDEL from whatever subdirectory you happen to be in.
WHY SHOULD I REGISTER?
Heck, it's only $3. Besides, registered users of DDEL get
access to these bonuses for 2 full years:
* Ability to eliminate the shareware "pay me" message that
appears when you exit the program. I'll send you a
secret code to enter so that you'll suffer the exit delay
no more.
* A phone number for a free 7-day-a-week, 24-hour Bulletin
Board System (BBS) that always has the latest version of
DDEL, and allows downloads for first time callers. Call
'em every few months to see what else I've added to DDEL.
* The ability to write personal messages to me on that same
BBS. Through E-Mail correspondence for a period of two
years I'll give you the updated secret codes to remove
the "pay me" messages from future versions of DDEL.
Also, you can let me know what you would like to see in
updates of DDEL.
* You'll provide incentive for me to upgrade DDEL, as well as
write other helpful programs that the computer world is
crying for.
OKAY, OKAY. HOW DO I REGISTER?
That's easy. Turn on your printer, and when running DDEL,
press the F2 key. Fill out the mercifully short registration
form, and mail it to the address shown on the form. If you
don't have a printer (don't feel bad, I don't own one either),
just send a check for $3 to me at the address shown when you
exit DDEL. Just be sure to let me know your name, address and
version of DDEL you're using.
In return for your profound generosity, I will send you
complete details on how to take advantage of the mind-boggling
benefits listed above. You'll be one of the few, the proud,
the registered.
WHAT OTHER PROGRAMS HAVE YOU WRITTEN?
Thanks for asking. So far, I've only written one other
shareware program, WEDDING ORGANIZER. If you or someone you
know is getting hitched, and want more information on that
program, just write to me.
